"AlmostForgot" is a single made by Grammy-nominated artist, J.Views. He created the beat of the song using recordings of heartbeats. This way the heartbeat became an ever-changing metronome for the song.
Our task was to create a unique visual experience to go with the song, so we used a technology that let us detect the listener's heartbeat (when they placed their finger on their phone camera). This way we were able to make an interactive musical experience that responded to the listener's heartbeat in realtime whilst they were listening to the song.

Your heartbeat gives life to a character who embarks on a journey through lonely cities, mysterious temples and dreamy forests slowly getting closer and closer to finding out that they are not alone in this world – or perhaps are they finding themselves on the way?
These are some of the earliest sketches and explorations on the character. I like switching between digital and analog techniques when I work. This playful approach often results in more unique outcomes.
The character arrives at a mysterious temple and goes through a transformation before a door opens to a dark, but dreamy forest.
During the exploration phase the process can get a little messy – which is a good thing. It's about having an open mind whilst playing with different materials – the mixing of ink, chalk and pen below inspired the textures in the digital illustration style that we decided to go with.
Another set of design explorations on different creatures for the universe. Mixing ink and water created unexpected shapes and shades that became an inspiration for the characters.
Deep into the forest a portal opens to the unknown and takes the character to outer space where a surprise awaits.
